Celebrating International Thalassemia Day ,2022
Every year the International Thalassemia Day is celebrated on 8th may and the theme of this year is “BE AWARE, SHARE, CARE”. Keeping this theme in mind, ideSHi in collaboration with First Security Islami bank conducted another Thalassemia Awareness and Free Carrier Screening Program at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College on 14th may 2022.
Awareness program conducted in two sessions. In the first half, Ramon magssyssy award winner Bangladeshi scientist Dr. Firdausi Qadri, lead, ideSHi talked about the public health burden created by the thalassemia and how it can be prevented. Later on, Dr. Shahela Nazneen assistant professor, Hematology department of Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital delivered a presentation on clinical significance and financial burden caused by the disease. In the second half, venous blood samples were obtained from third year medical students for thalassemia carrier detection test (Hb Electrophoresis).
Professor Dr. ABM Maksudul Alam, Principal, ShSMCH, was present and chaired the event. Our chief guest Syed waseque Md. Ali, managing director, First Security Islami Bank Ltd. also graced the event with his warm presence.
