ideSHi in collaboration with First Security Islami Bank Ltd. conducted its 21st thalassemia awareness program on 10th September 2022, at Matlab (North) Upazila Health Complex among the Community Health Care Providers (CHCP), Health Inspectors, Assistant Health Inspectors, Nurses, Midwives, Doctors.
The program aimed to raise the awareness regarding thalassemia and enhance capacity building within healthcare providers. In the first half of the program, Ramon Magsaysay award-winner Emeritus Scientist Dr. Firdausi Qadri talked about how we can prevent thalassemia and reduce the disease burden in Bangladesh. Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer (UHFPO) Dr. MD Asaduzzaman Juwel chaired the event and promised to improve local capacity to prevent the disease.
In the second half of the session, 77 blood samples collected from the participants for thalassemia screening.
