Thalassemia Awareness and Free Carrier Screening at Dhaka Community Medical College

‘Thalassemia can be prevented and it is a challenge that requires collective efforts for awareness, prevention, and support’ – said by ideSHi lead Dr. Firdausi Qadri in a program arranged by ideSHi with the support of First security Islami Bank Ltd. (FSIBL) at Dhaka Community Medical College Moghbazar, Dhaka.

This event brings together the community for a dual purpose – raising awareness about Thalassemia and providing free career screening services. We are honored to have with us distinguished personalities who have delivered their thoughtful speech about Thalassemia and ideSHi’s effort to highlight the issue: the esteemed Principal, Prof. Dr. A. S. M. Monirul Alam, the keynote speaker, Dr. Firdausi Qadri, Hospital Director, Dr. Omar Sharif Ibne Hasan, and Prof. Dr. Farzana Mahazabin, who delivered a heartfelt thank-you speech. ideSHi’s Chief Operating Officer, Dr. Rofiqur Rahman, provided insightful remarks about the organization’s mission and success.

Thalassemia is a genetic blood disorder that affects many lives globally. ideSHi recognized the importance of proactive measures, and this awareness event aimed to inform the community about Thalassemia’s prevalence, prevention, and management. The presence of healthcare professionals, community leaders, and engaged participants exemplifies a collective commitment to a healthier future.

ideSHi collected a total of 95 samples for Thalassemia screening during the event. This initiative reflects a shared commitment to proactive healthcare and community well-being. The samples collected will undergo rigorous analysis, contributing to the identification and understanding of Thalassemia in our community.
