Thalassemia Awareness and Free Carrier Screening Program, alongside the Professor S.S. Qadri Scholarship Awarding Ceremony at the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, University of Dhaka

In honor of the esteemed Professor Dr. Syed Saleheen Qadri, esteemed co-founder of ideSHi, whose visionary dream was to ensure “no child in Bangladesh would be born with Thalassemia,” ideSHi organized a Thalassemia Awareness and Free Carrier Screening Program, alongside the Professor S.S. Qadri Scholarship Awarding Ceremony. This event took place at the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, University of Dhaka.

During her address, Dr. Firdausi Qadri preciously explained the details of thalassemia disease, delving into its origins, causes, and the likelihood of its occurrence. She shed light on the challenges faced by patients and their families, emphasizing the arduous journey of managing this condition. Additionally, Dr. Qadri underscored the importance of treatment options available and the relentless efforts required to combat thalassemia effectively. This impactful program was organized by ideSHi, with invaluable support from First Security Islami Bank Ltd. (FSIBL).

ideSHi is  honored to have distinguished personalities who have delivered their thoughtful speech about Thalassemia and ideSHi’s effort to highlight the issue: Prof. Dr. Md. Enamul Haque, professor and Chairman, Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, University of Dhaka, Prof. Dr. Emran Kabir Chowdhury, Chairman, Department of Public Health and ideSHi’s Chief Operating Officer, Dr. Rofiqur Rahman, provided insightful remarks about the organization’s mission and success. Prof. Dr. Md. Zakir Hossain Howlader, Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Prof. Dr. Mohammad Riazul Islam, Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Prof. A.H.M.Nurun Nabi, Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Abdullah Al Saba, Lecturer, University of Dhaka, Dr. Md. Taufiqur Rahman Bhuiyan, Senior Scientist, icddr,b and the students of the University of Dhaka further enriched the event with their presence.

Dr. Firdausi Qadri graciously awarded scholarship stipends to deserving students as per the qualifications determined by the university authority. The students expressed profound gratitude towards her, acknowledging her role in nurturing their passion for science and keeping them inspired.

During the event, ideSHi collected a commendable total of 83 samples for Thalassemia screening, demonstrating a collective dedication to proactive healthcare and community welfare. This initiative not only underscores the importance of early detection and prevention but also serves as an inspiration for the younger generation to engage actively in initiatives promoting public health and well-being.
