A humanitarian relief camp was organized in Noakhali’s Neazpur Union to support people affected by recent floods. The camp provided free medical treatment to over 1,800 individuals, addressing common flood-related health issues such as waterborne diseases, respiratory problems, skin infections, and injuries. Alongside medical services, approximately 10,000 people were given food supplies, including essentials like dry food, and ORS with a focus on vulnerable groups such as women, children, and the elderly. Sanitary pads and soap were distributed to 800 females to ensure menstrual hygiene during the crisis, helping prevent infections and maintain dignity among women and adolescent girls. Clothing was also donated to families, especially elderly individuals who had lost their belongings to the floods.
There were also some sessions to demonstrate to the people how to purify water traditionally and how to make oral saline accordingly. In addition to these relief efforts, the camp took proactive measures in disease surveillance by collecting stool samples from suspected cases of diarrhea to monitor for potential cholera outbreaks. This was coordinated from Noakhali Sadar Hospital where more than 350 patients were admitted with Severe diarrhea cases.
Despite the success, challenges such as logistical difficulties due to flooded terrain and the high demand for resources were faced. Looking ahead, continued support in healthcare, nutrition, and sanitation is crucial to prevent the spread of diseases and alleviate the crisis. Follow-up camps, sustained food distribution, and hygiene promotion are recommended, alongside further cholera monitoring and vaccination campaigns.
The success of this operation was made possible by the dedication of medical teams, volunteers, and donors, as well as the support of local authorities.
