We are delighted to celebrate the remarkable achievement of Dr. Firdausi Qadri, Lead, ideSHi, Senior Scientist at icddr.b and a globally renowned expert in infectious disease prevention. Dr. Qadri has been honored with the 2024 VinFuture Special Prize for Innovators from Developing Countries in recognition of her groundbreaking work for innovative improvement of oral cholera vaccination in developing countries, contributing to the pursuit of global cholera eradication.
The award ceremony was held on December 6th at the Ho Guom Opera House in Hanoi, Vietnam, with the Prime Minister of Vietnam, Phạm Minh Chính, and other esteemed leaders in attendance. This year, the VinFuture Prize—created to recognize innovations that improve lives and promote a sustainable future—attracted nearly 1,500 nominations from over 80 countries and regions. Dr. Qadri’s achievements perfectly embody the theme of the 2024 awards, “Resilient Rebound,” which honors resilience and advancement through scientific innovation.
The ceremony was further enriched by a special performance from the Grammy Award-winning band Imagine Dragons, enhancing the festive spirit of this momentous event.
In her acceptance speech, Dr. Qadri conveyed heartfelt gratitude, reflecting on her more than four decades of dedicated work in public health.
