Thalassemia Awareness & Free Carrier Screening Program Held at Kushtia Medical College

On February 9, 2025, ideSHi and the Rotary Club of Dhaka North jointly organized a Thalassemia Awareness and Free Carrier Screening Program at Kushtia Medical College. The event featured insightful discussions on thalassemia and a free carrier screening session for medical students.

 

The program commenced with Dr. Md. Rofiqur Rahman, Chief Operating Officer of ideSHi, who introduced ideSHi’s mission, vision, and objectives. He emphasized the organization’s dedication to improving public health through research, education, and community outreach.

Dr. Firdausi Qadri, the lead of ideSHi, delivered a comprehensive presentation on Thalassemia, discussing its causes, treatment options, the current scenario in Bangladesh, and preventive strategies. She stressed the importance of raising awareness and early screening to curb the spread of this genetic disorder.

 

Dr. Humayun Rashid, President of the Rotary Club of Dhaka North, expressed gratitude to ideSHi for its invaluable contributions to society and reaffirmed the Rotary Club’s commitment to supporting the fight against thalassemia.

Dr. Wadud Sarker, Vice President of the Rotary Club of Dhaka North, reflected on past collaborations with ideSHi. He also highlighted the unwavering dedication of Dr. Syed Saleheen Qadri, late Co-founder of ideSHi, whose relentless efforts and visionary leadership continue to drive the organization’s mission to eliminate thalassemia from Bangladesh. . His legacy continues to inspire ideSHi’s ongoing work in this field.

Representing Kushtia Medical College, the program’s President, Dr. Shahidul Islam, Associate Professor, Neurology, Kushtia Medical College. extended his appreciation to all organizers. He encouraged students to participate the free carrier screening session, reinforcing the importance of proactive health measures.
