Former Senior Research Officer
Asifuzzaman Rahat has a BSc in Biochemistry and Biotechnology from North South University, Dhaka, Bangladesh. He wrote his undergraduate thesis on identification and stress induced semi-quantitative expression pattern analysis of the gene Asr in jute. He then completed a MSc in biotechnology from BRAC University, Dhaka, Bangladesh, during which his research was focused on the study of acute respiratory and enteric infections in under-five children of Dhaka. He is currently employed as a Senior Research officer at the institute for developing Science and Health initiatives (ideSHi). He is involved in several research projects ongoing in the institute including acute respiratory and enteric infections in under-five children, immunological detection of typhoid and paratyphoid infection, and study of antibiotic resistance genes in bacterial pathogens of acute respiratory infections. His research interests include infectious diseases, immunology, bioinformatics, metabolic engineering, and genetic disorders. Rahat has a keen interest in music and wants to learn to play the sitar. However, he doesn’t see it happening anytime soon.
