Farjana Akther Noor is a PhD research student at the Institute for Developing Science and Health Initiatives (ideSHi) and the research topic of her PhD program is “Prevalence pattern of thalassemia in the Comilla district of Bangladesh and thalassemia-induced transcription factors to decipher the disease severity”. ” She has completed her B.Sc (Honors) in 2009 and MS in 2010 from the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, University of Dhaka. She conducted her MS thesis on “Cloning of S- adenosylmethionine decarboxylase (SAMDC) cDNA and identification of specific promoter sequence from sensitive and salt tolerant rice” at Plant Biotechnology Laboratory (PBT Lab), University of Dhaka. Afterward she joined as research associate at the PBT Lab, DU and worked on cloning, characterization, transformation and functional analysis of innovative genes, promoters and transcription factors for imparting salinity tolerance to rice. Subsequently she served as senior lecturer in the department of Biotechnology and Genetic Engineering, University of Development Alternative (UODA) from October, 2010 to August, 2016. During her tenure in UODA, she was involved in research on pharmacological activity of indigenous medicinal plant on animal model system and Ethno medicinal survey in different areas of Bangladesh and has a good number of publications in National and International journals. Currently she is in Tejgaon College, Dhaka as a faculty of the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology. She is the Life-member of Bangladesh Society for Biochemistry & Molecular Biology (BSBMB) and Graduate Biochemistry Assosiation (GBA). Her research interest includes Inborn Errors of Metabolism (IEM), Molecular Genetics, Bioinformatics, Immunology, anti-diabetic and analgesic plants in Bangladesh.
